Mega Boathouse
Commencent Bay Rowing Club, Tillicum, Washington
Commencement Bay Rowing Club was founded in 1992, and through five years of generous donations and determination on the part of the members, its boathouse was built in 1997. This is no small feat, for the facility is 12,000 square feet, with four active boat bays and a fifth one for repairs. A second-story open room allows for any variety of uses from social events to conditioning to erg practice. As an extension of the facility of itself, Commencement Bay Rowing Club has three docks specifically for launching its shells out into the American Lake.
The facility is not the only impressive aspect of this organization. The club's Junior Program boasts an extraordinary range of rowers from over seventeen different schools in the region, and has even sent members onto the Junior National Team. The Master's Program is somewhat more diverse, allowing for any type of rower from recreational to competitive. Even for those who merely wish to know more about the sport of rowing, Commencement Bay Rowing Club offers an Outreach Program to let those who are curious know that there is a definite place for them in the rowing community.
