Mount Holyoke College Community Boathouse
South Hadley, Massachusetts, United States
The Mount Holyoke College Community Boathouse opened the spring of 2010. Built along the scenic, National Heritage Connecticut River, it took five years (including digging for Indian artifacts, scuba diving to count river mussels, counting dragon fly skins) to obtain the permitting needed to build.
Designed by Jeff Peterson of Peterson Architects, the boathouse looks like a magnificent barn in the middle of a Pioneer Valley meadow. The boathouse features a cathedral ceiling, exposed beams and a massive skylight. There are two bays- one for the Mount Holyoke College Varsity team (70 rowers in the fall and 45 in the spring) and one for the Mount Holyoke Community Rowing program (currently 35 rowers and growing).
