Fastest Growing Boathouse
Syracuse Chargers Rowing Club, Syracuse, New York
The Syracuse Chargers Rowing Club was founded in 1972 by Syracuse University, the City of Syracuse, and Onondaga County, and has thrived ever since its conception. Due to its success, the organization is beginning to outgrow its current space, and a similar community effort is in full swing to raise the money to build a new boathouse on Onondaga Lake. With the generosity of the people of Syracuse and a grant from the State of New York, the Chargers are well on their way to creating a larger space so they can accept even more members into the fold.
It is no surprise, therefore, that the club boasts several different programs for any and all who wish to join from high school, collegiate, to masters programs; there is also a unique league called the Corporate League. Any employer who wants to use rowing as a means of teambuilding may spend six weeks learning to row with their company, thereby increasing the trust in the team. Although this program is just starting, it may just pave the way for other clubs to follow suit. If nothing else, one can always find a place among the Syracuse Chargers, no matter from where he or she hails.
